The last of the grand palaces of India, the Umaid Bhawan Palace set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens is one of the largest residences of the World. Names after the local Maharaja of Jodhpur, Maharaja Umaid Singh, this golden-yellow sandstone monument, was conceived in Art – Deco architecture of its time. Completed in 1943, this palace has served as the principle residence of the Jodhpur royal family. 

The palace was designed by renowned Edwardian architect, Henry Lanchester who has blended eastern and western influences into the design of the palace. A case in point being its majestic 105-foot high cupola is influenced by the Renaissance, while the towers draw inspiration from Rajput tradition.
