Commonwealth Games 2010

The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the nineteenth edition of the Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India generally. Prior to this Delhi did host the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia which as in 1998. 

The Commonwealth
This is an association of independent sovereign states spread over every continent and ocean. The commonwealth nations include 2 billion or 30% of the World’s population and they include many faiths, races, languages, cultures and traditions.

The Commonwealth games federation:
The commonwealth games federation (C.G.F.) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games. 
These games are a unique, World class event held once every four years. And, they are often referred to as the friendly games. 
As a means of improving society and the general well being of the commonwealth, the CGF also encourages and assists education via sport development and physical recreation. 

The first Commonwealth Games were held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada where 11 countries sent 400 athletes to take part in 6 sports and 59 events. Bobby Robinson, a major influence within athletics in Canada at the time, finally implemented the event that had been talked about amongst Commonwealth nations for over thirty years with the City of Hamilton providing $30,000 to help cover travelling costs of the participating nations.
