Polo in India

Polo – the game of the royals is sport which has been traditionally very popular in India. Although its origins are from Persia, the modern form of the game which was popularized by the British is derived from a game called ‘Pulu’ in the state of Manipur India. 

Since then the stately game has been popular amongst the royal families of India apart from the British rulers who often competed against Indian royalty. Currently the Polo season in India witnesses international games between countries as well as domestic games between teams from within India. 

The traditional sport of polo is played at speed on a large grass field up to 300 yards in length, and each polo team consists of four riders and their mounts. 

Additionally in India you can also get to watch Polo with a twist i.e. Polo with elephants in place oh Polo ponies.

Today, the game continues to enjoy an up market status and most games are sponsored events by luxury brands and guests are allowed by invitation only.
